About the Centre
مركز الأزهر التعليمي بحيّ إيستلي في نيروبي، يجمع لأبناء الحيّ بين حفظ القرآن وتعلّم العربية والعلوم الشرعية، ولا يقطعهم عن دراستهم النظامية.
Al-Azhar Educational Centre in the Eastleigh district of Nairobi brings together Qur'an memorisation, Arabic and the Islamic sciences for the children of the neighbourhood, without cutting them off from their formal schooling.
نشأة المركز وغايته
How the Centre Began and What It Is For
نشأ المركز من حاجة ظاهرة في الحيّ: أُسرٌ تريد لأبنائها أن يحفظوا كتاب الله ويعرفوا دينهم، وتخشى في الوقت نفسه أن يتأخّروا في مدارسهم. فكان أن جُمع الأمران في مكان واحد وجدول واحد، حتى لا يُضطرّ وليّ الأمر إلى المفاضلة بين الحفظ والتحصيل.
The centre grew out of a plain need in the neighbourhood: families who wanted their children to memorise the Book of Allah and know their religion, while fearing they would fall behind at school. The two were brought together in one place and one timetable, so that a guardian is not forced to choose between memorisation and schooling.
ويقوم على إدارة المركز والتدريس فيه هيئة من المعلّمات في جميع مراتبه. وهذا اختيار مقصود لا عارض، إذ يطمئنّ كثير من الأُسر إلى أن أبناءها الصغار في رعاية معلّمات، وتجد الأمّ حين تطلب المشورة من تُخاطبها وتعرف ظرفها.
The centre is administered and taught throughout by a body of female teachers. This is a deliberate choice rather than an accident of circumstance, since many families are reassured that their young children are in the care of female teachers, and a mother seeking counsel finds someone who will speak with her and understands her situation.
ويستقبل المركز أبناء الحيّ من الجنسين في السنوات الأولى، ثم تتمايز الفصول بحسب المستوى والمرحلة.
The centre receives children of the neighbourhood of both sexes in the early years, after which classes are separated according to level and stage.

التدرّج
Progression
لا يُنقل الطالب من مرحلة حتى يُتقن ما قبلها. وقد يبطئ هذا سير بعض الطلاب، غير أنّ ما يُبنى على أساس ثابت أبقى ممّا يُبنى على عجل.
No student moves from one stage until they have mastered what came before. This may slow some students down, but what is built on firm ground lasts longer than what is built in haste.

Individual Attention
المجموعات صغيرة عن قصد، ولكل مستوى معلّمة مشرفة تعرف طلابها بأسمائهم وتقف على ما يُحسنه كلٌّ منهم وما يعسر عليه.
Groups are small by design, and each level has a supervising teacher who knows her students by name and knows what each does well and what comes hard to them.

Continuous Contact with the Family
يُوافى وليّ الأمر بحال ابنه أوّلًا بأوّل، في الحفظ والتحصيل والسلوك، دون انتظار نهاية الفصل.
A guardian is kept informed of their child's standing as it happens, in memorisation, attainment and conduct, without waiting for the end of term.

Clarity in Financial Matters
الرسوم معلومة، والقيود منظّمة، ويُوافى الداعمون وأولياء الأمور ببيان ما لهم وما عليهم عند الطلب.
Fees are stated, records are kept in order, and supporters and guardians are furnished with a statement of what is owed and what has been paid on request.
